Instructions:
Cutting Hexagons- 1. Refer to the numbers along the lower section of the ruler and find the solid black line on the ruler that corresponds to the finished size hexagon you want to cut. 2. Cut a fabric strip the width indicated in black type. For example - to cut 3 inch finished size hexagons -cut a 3-1/2 inch wide strip. TIP - to cut several hexagons at once - fold fabric strip in half or quarters and cut through all layers. 3. Hexagons are cut in 2 steps with the F & P Hexagon ruler. Beginning at left end of fabric - place ruler so top and bottom solid lines for desired size hexagon are aligned with top and bottom edges of strip and entire desired size hexagon shape is atop strip. Trim along right slanted edges of ruler (Photo A). TIP If you cut left handed - work from right end of fabric strip and begin by cutting along the left edge of the ruler. 4. Remove ruler and rotate the fabric piece you just cut so outward sloped slanted edges are to your left. Reposition ruler atop fabric you just rotated so correct solid lines on left edge of ruler are aligned with outward slanted fabric edges. Cut along right slanted edge of ruler to complete cutting hexagon (Photo B). TIP To avoid having to rotate fabric - work on a small cutting mat and turn the mat. 5. Repeat steps 3 and 4 to cut additional hexagons. CUTTING HALF HEXAGONS - 1. Using the numbers in the top section of the ruler - begin by finding the line on the Hexagon Ruler that corresponds to the finished size half hexagon you want to cut. 2. Cut a fabric strip the width indicated in yellow type. For example - to cut a 2-1/2 inch finished size half hexagon - cut a 3 inch wide strip. 3. With the F & P Hexagon Ruler - half hexagons are cut in 2 steps. With the right side of the fabric strip up - place the ruler atop strip with the yellow solid line that runs through the center of the ruler along the bottom edge of strip and entire desired size half hexagon atop the strip (Photo C). Cut along right slanted edges of the ruler. 4. Turn the piece you have just cut over so wrong side of fabic is facing up. Align the solid ruler lines for chosen half hexagon size along the slanted cut edges. Cut along right slanted edge of ruler to complete cutting half hexagon (Photo D). 5. Repeat Steps 3 and 4 to cut additional half hexagons. Ideas for Hexagons and Half Hexagons diagrams shows options for combining hexagons. The Hexagon Ruler coordinates with both the F & P Pyramid Ruler and the 60 Degree Diamond Ruler. For example - a 3 inch pyramid triangle - 6 inch hexagon - 3 inch half hexagon and 3 inch 60 degree diamond will all fit together. Refer to Ideas for Combining Hexagons and Relates Shapes.
